YWCA ELKHART COUNTY ADVOCACY IN ACTION

YWCA Elkhart County's board members Terry Walker & Lanette Bryant along with Executive
Director Rebecca Shrode participated in the YWCA USA's Capitol Hill Day on April 10, 2008.
Over 250 YWCA members from across the United States created a "Persimmon Storm" on
Capitol Hill. Your Elkhart County Delegation made constituent visits on Senators Evan Bayh
& Richard Lugar and Congressman Joe Donnelly. The message delivered to our elected
representatives was to fully fund domestic discretionary dollars used to help the most vulnerable of our citizenry.
YWCA MISSION:
The YWCA USA is a women's membership movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by the richness of many beliefs and values. Strengthened by diversity, the YWCA draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. The YWCA will thrust its collective power toward the elimination of racism, wherever it exists, and by any means necessary.
